A SECOND NATIONAL ALTAR TO BE RAISED – 18th October 2017

Zambia is about to observe a second national day of prayers and fasting on 18th October 2017 under the theme: “Promoting peace and reconciliation: Consolidating National unity in diversity” based on Psalm 122:7-8.

Zambians, particularly Christians are expected to observe this important day while programmes of entertainment nature shall be suspended. Worship centres have been identified at national, provincial and district levels throughout the country.

At National level the prayers shall be held at the Lusaka Agricultural and Commercial Show grounds. These prayers came into being after the President of the Republic of Zambia His Excellency Edgar Changwa Lungu on 18th October 2015 declared the day ‘a national day of prayers and fasting’. The first observance of the day was done on 18th October, 2016.

The United Church of Zambia Synod headquarters would like in to urge all its members who will not manage to find their way to the designated worship centres to organise similar prayers and fasting in their local congregations.

The clergy and leaders of these worship services are however cautioned to guard against the use of divisive and political sentiments that would distract others from focussing on the main essence of this important day. As the United Church of Zambia we believe in unity as characterised by our tagline “ All One in Christ “ and Zambia’s motto of “One Zambia One Nation”.  We expect these prayers to focus more on national unity, hard work and economic growth.
