MWANDI OVC HANDED OVER TO UCZ

MWANDI,–UCZ WESTERN PRESBYTERY: 30/07/2024- The Mwandi Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVC) Australian Support team has officially handed over the Mwandi Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Project to the United Church of Zambia.

The team which is from the Uniting Presbyterian Church of Australia has handed over the project to UCZ as a way of ensuring continued support of local children through education, nutrition, and social programs.
Speaking during the handover event, OVC Chairperson John Probert praised the partnership that has existed between the two churches in uplifting the welfare of vulnerable communities in Mwandi District.
“The relationship between Australia and Zambia is very important, we trust that this partnership will continue long into the future,” he said.
He also maintained that the project will continue to focus on its mission of nurturing children with Christian love and providing essential services, such as a feeding program and school support.
And UCZ General Secretary Rev. Chipasha Musaba is elated at the commitment showed by the two churches in translating the gospel into reality by demonstrating God’s love through helping the needy.
He assured the Australian partners of Church’s dedication to sustaining and expanding the project’s impact in Mwandi and other communities.
Meanwhile, UCZ Western Presbytery Bishop Rev. Roy Kanchele acknowledged the project’s significant impact on the community, stating that many former beneficiaries of the OVC project are now serving in various capacities.
Rev.Kanchele said the UCZ was grateful of the support extended by the Uniting Presbyterian Church of Australia to Mwandi.
“The United Church of Zambia is very grateful that you have not only been partners that have stood with the Church, but partners that have stood with the community,” he said.
The Mwandi Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVC) Australian Support has handed the UCZ among the infrastructure, orphanage shelter, two vehicles and seven housing units among others.
