Northern Presbytery Kicks Off Celebrations

The Northern Presbytery of the UCZ held its Golden Jubilee Celebrations launch on Sunday 2nd March 2014 in the provincial capital Kasama.

Eager marchers arrived at the flagging off site as early as 07:30 hours. They comprised two (2) Boys Brigade brass bands, the Boys and Girls Brigades, choirs, representatives from Mungwi Consistory, and members from St. Luke’s congregation in addition to five representatives from all congregations within Kasama North, East and West Consistories.

Guest of Honour at the march past was Northern Province Minister Mr. Freedom Sikazwe who was accompanied by Kasama District Commissioner Mr. Kalanga Bwalya.

The march- past flagging off prayer was offered by Rev. Morgan Mukwamba, before the Provincial Minister, Mr. Sikazwe, flagged off the march past from Kasama-Mbala roundabout at about  09:00hours.

Escorted by the Zambia Police, the marchers with one holding the Bible, walked along Independence Avenue through central town into the heart of the provincial capital. Having approached the traffic lights, the marchers turned off Independence Avenue into Kasama-Luwingu Road to St. Luke’s congregation.

The marchers, led by the Provincial Minister who was clad in Golden Jubilee celebrations chitenge, gave out flyers to motorists and other passers-by.

A Church service was held at St Luke’s Congregation where the provincial Minister also addressed the congregants. The sermon, “Declaring the year of the Lord’s favour”, was given by Rev Sikazwe.

After the Church service, two meetings were held with the Presbytery Golden Jubilee Celebrations and the Fundraising Committees. The first meeting was held to evaluate preparations for the Golden Jubilee launch and to plan for the actual celebrations to be held in January 2015, beginning with congregations in June, followed by consistories in August and Presbyteries in November 2013.

The second meeting was held to evaluate how the Presbytery had performed in its fundraising activities for the Synod Investment Complex.

On their way to Kasama on Saturday, the Synod Office team paid a courtesy call on Bishop Frank Bwalya of  Muchinga Presbytery in Mpika, before proceeding to Kasama. The team was well-received by the Bishop and they handed over 26 T-Shirts, four Executive folders, one umbrella and four banners to the Presbytery Golden Jubilee celebrations committee.

  • The Synod Office team comprised Rev. Sikazwe, (Synod Communications Secretary) and Mr. Chabala (Member – Synod Fundraising and Golden Jubilee Celebration Committees).
