TWO UCZ MINISTERS JOIN UCJCI AS CWM MISSION PARTNERS

KENNETH KAUNDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – LUSAKA: 01/04/2022 –Two Ministers from the United Church of Zambia, Rev. Thomas Phiri and Rev. Patrick Banda have joined the United Church of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands as Mission Partners .
Rev. Banda and Rev. Phiri left Zambia on Friday 1st April ,2022 at 9pm CAT and are expected to report in Jamaica on 3rd April,2022 for their initial four year tour as Mission Partners .
Speaking in an interview before their departure for Jamaica, the two Ministers expressed joy at the opportunity to serve as Mission Partners away from home.
Rev. Phiri said he will be in Kingston for an orientation for a period of one month .
He said he will be expected to move to the North Eastern Region Council to resume his pastoral work in May ,2022.
Rev. Banda, on the other hand, has been placed at St .Catherine Manchester in South-Central Jamaica.
The Ministers appreciated the UCZ and its partners for the gesture.
The United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands traces its roots in Jamaica in 1800 and in 1846 in the Cayman Islands.
The Church is as a result of the Union of the then United Church of Jamaica and Grand Cayman and the Disciples of Christ in Jamaica which took place in 1992.
The United Church of Jamaica and Grand Cayman was itself the product of the union in 1965 of the Presbyterian Church, in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, and the Congregational Church in Jamaica.
Both the UCZ and UCJCI are members of the Council for World Mission(CWM), a global partnership of 32 member churches in 31 countries, with over 50,000 congregations worldwide.
The CWM has over the years been committed to the mutual sharing of people, ideas and money to advance God’s liberating and transformative mission in the world among it’s members.
