UCZ Synod United Church of Zambia
CHOMA ,–Southern Presbytery: 24/06/2023– Government has commended the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) for delving into activities that promote fitness and health wellbeing of Zambians.
Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Yolanta Mutyambe said government appreciates the healthy life philosophy being advocated by the UCZ Mission and Evangelism Department.
Ms.Mutyambe said this in a speech read on behalf of Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa during the UCZ Corporate Sports Gala held at Choma Secondary School.
Ms.Mutyambe said the sports event will not only help improve the physical wellbeing of the people but also help individuals learn a sense of good citizenship.
“This event has not only increased people’s awareness of healthy through aerobics and corporate fun run but also brought different denominations together,”She said.
And the Deputy Permanent Secretary said the Church remains government’s key partner in development and is actively playing an important role in improving local people’s conditions.
Meanwhile,UCZ Southern Province Presbytery Bishop,Rev Elias Sinkala said the Corporate Sports Gala is aimed at raising funds for the rehabilitation of dilapidated infrastructure in mission stations.
Rev.Bishop Sinkala has also disclosed that the funds raised will also be used towards evangelism.
“As a Church we have targeted to reach 500 souls annually and through this event,we will be able to raise money to buy equipment for the Mission and Evangelism Department to reach that target,”he said
A total of sixteen congregations participated in the Southern Presbytery Corporate Sports Gala which was held under the theme,”Promoting a healthy living for a wealthy nation.”
Among the activities included earobics, Reverend’s races,100,200,400,800 and relay races.
