PRESS STATEMENT

Lusaka, Tuesday 7 February, 2023 -The United Church of Zambia (UCZ) has noted with great concern a story that was aired on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) TV 2 18:00 hours main news on 6th February,2023 with a footage insinuating that one of its Schools, Sefula Secondary School was involved in the ploy to sell a 17-year-old boy living with albinism in Mongu District.

The UCZ wishes to inform the general public that the aforementioned school as depicted in the video footage on ZNBC TV 2 news is not the one involved in the scandal.

We wish to categorically state that the United Church of Zambia Sefula Secondary school is different from Sefula Combined School for the visually impaired.

We wish to further state that as a faith based organization, UCZ has been serving the nation for over 125 years through the provision of quality and affordable education to learners of diverse ethnic and social backgrounds at Early Childhood Education, Primary and Secondary School Levels.

Our vision as a Church is to provide learning facilities for the attainment of high- quality education, impart moral and spiritual values and life-skills in accordance with the teachings and values of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, a story with such misplaced footage has potential to injure the reputation of the Church and its leadership and should be ignored with contempt it deserves.

We therefore appeal to the National Broadcaster to retract the picture story in question as it does not represent the true image of the School and the United Church of Zambia as an institution.
